Prescription Refill Policy Update

Revision date: 06/02/2026

Hello to our Tulsa Family Psychiatry and Wellness Family,

We are sharing an update and clarification to our prescription refill policy. This policy became effective January 1, 2025, and the current revision adds more detail about when the refill processing fee applies and when it does not.

We understand that prescription refills are an important part of ongoing care. Our goal is to manage refill requests efficiently, safely, and fairly while helping patients avoid unnecessary appointments whenever possible.

Why This Change?

Our team processes a large volume of refill requests each day. These requests often require coordination among patients, staff, providers, and pharmacies. The refill processing fee helps support the time and administrative work involved in managing prescription requests between appointments.

The $5 refill processing fee applies to prescription refills requested between appointments. In many cases, this may be less costly and more convenient than scheduling an additional appointment solely for a refill request.

Important Updates to the Prescription Refill Process

When the $5 fee Applies

The fee will apply to all prescription refill requests made between appointments for:

  • Commercially insured patients
  • Patients with commercial primary insurance and Medicaid secondary insurance
  • Self-pay patients
  • Patients who have not had a visit within the past 30 days and are not scheduled for a follow-up within the next 30 days.

When the Fee Does Not Apply

The refill processing fee will not apply in the following situations:

  • If you have had a visit within the past 30 days or are scheduled for a follow-up within the next 30 days, no refill fee applies.
  • You are a Spravato patient with a scheduled Spravato treatment appointment within 7 days
  • Your provider recommends an unexpected medication change due to side effects or an adverse reaction
  • A prescription must be resent due to pharmacy stock or availability issues
  • You have Medicaid as your primary insurance coverage
Special considerations for Schedule II medications:

Many ADHD medications (classified as Schedule II controlled substances) require new prescriptions monthly by law. Patients taking these medications may need two prescriptions per month; however, the processing fee will remain a flat $5 per month per person, regardless of the number of prescriptions.

We encourage patients to schedule follow-up appointments as recommended by their provider to avoid running out of medication.

Our team is here to assist with any scheduling needs to help ensure you have enough medication between visits.
